Taiwan Tourist Visa For Filipinos

For my next destination 2 weeks from now, I will be visiting Taiwan, Taipei. I booked this particular trip last year during a piso fare from Cebupac for only Php 970 :D I think this is by far the cheapest international airfare I got for the past 2 years of traveling.

Taiwan as a country is quite interesting. I read it in the internet that Taiwan has the highest recycling rates in the world and the lowest poverty rate in the world? Cool huh? And did you know that they have one of the fastest processing of travel visa here in the Philippines? Well, this is based on experience :) and I'm about to share with you the easy breezy steps and visa processing for Filipino passport holder :).

First and foremost, visit the Official Taiwan Website here to read latest news and changes regarding their visa processing. Online forms and list of requirements for different type of visa can be seen here as well. For now, I will focus on the tourist visa requirements.

1. Visit the site for online visa forms. A security message will pop up stating that the site is not trusted. It will look like either this...
or this...but no need to fret because it is legit. So just accept whatever prompts may appear and then proceed.
2. You should be able to enter the Taiwan online application forms. Click General Visa Application when you're applying for tourist visa.

"Effective April 01, 2012, all visa applicants (including Philippine Passport Holders) should access the Visa Application Forms from the website https://visawebapp.boca.gov.tw After filling up the Application Forms online, please print them outsign on the last page and bring them along with other required documents to our office, Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in the Philippines, either personally or through a substitute within 15 days of accomplishing the visa form. Please note that Handwritten Application Forms will not be acceptable after April 01, 2012."
and then fill up the forms :) ALWAYS ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK YOUR INFORMATION. IT SHOULD BE CORRECT and be submitted within 15 days after filling up otherwise you need to fill up again.
Attention (General Visa Application) In order to avoid delays in processing visa applications, please take note of the following details when completing the Visa Application Form online:

Category 1 “APPLICANT’S DETAILS”

(c) If SurnameGiven nameID No or Email are not applicable, please leave them blank. If Former or Other NameChinese NameFormer or Other Nationality are not applicable, please enter  NONE
(d) If your Occupation, for example “manpower broker”, is not fond on the ready-made list, please choose  other
Category 2 “APPLICANT’S PASSPORT” and “JOURNEY TO TAIWAN
  (e) The complete “Name and Address of Employer or School” should be provided.
Category 3 “DETAILS OF YOUR CONTACT IN TAIWAN

Please double check all information before clicking “Submit”. In case of errors in spelling, please use the mouse to drag the cursor over the wrong letter or word, then press “backspace” to clear that portion. Keyboard “Delete” Function is disable.
 2. Now after filling up the form, it's time to prepare your requirements.
Visitor and Business Visa requirements:
For those who intend to travel to Taiwan, Republic of China for a short visit, shall submit the following:

1. An online Visa Application Form (please accesshttps://visawebapp.boca.gov.tw to fill up the Form and print them out)

2. Two (2) passport size photos 1.5”x2 with white background (taken within the last three (3) months) --sign the 2 ID pictures at the back then paste 1 on the form the other, put it in a small clear plastic then attach it to your form. If you don't have a plastic, you can ask the guard at the embassy before you come in.
3. Passport valid for at least six months and old passport showing previous travels

4. Birth Certificate issued by NSO

5. Marriage Contract (if applicable) issued by NSO

6. Supporting documents related to the purpose of VISIT such as:
      A. Confirmed round trip Air ticket or Booking Certificate
      B. Certificate of Employment AND Letter of permission to leave from the employer
      C. Financial statements of the applicant such as:
            (1) Income Tax Return
            (2) Bank Book or Bank Certificate. Note that Bank Certificate is different from a Bank Statement. Bank Certificate is a letter of certification how much money you have in your account. Bank Statement reflects your "historical" account activities (it reflects when and what time you deposited money, withdraw, etc..)
      D. Etc. --I gave a certification of my enrollment for masters class. I think you can give one if you have just to prove that you have commitments here in Manila and will not work in Taiwan.

 7. Traveling on BUSINESS, you must also submit:

      A. Business letter or trading records from Taiwan Company
      B. Certificate of Business Name Registration and SEC RegistrationIf owner of the company
      C. Invitation Letter from Taiwan company / organization in Chinese letterhead that outlines clearly purpose of
your visit and duration of your stay
      D. Official letters or request letters from concerned authorities for official trip
      E. Seminar program
      F. Certificate of Employment; Professional Identification; Company ID
      G. Other Supporting Documents if Required such as SSS contribution lists, Pay Slip etc.
8. All documents submitted to this office should be Original and with 1 photocopy. They will take the original copies but will return it soon as you claim your passport and hopefully with approved visa.
9. The applicant will be scheduled for an interview (if required) but most of the time, they won't require you to show up anymore. You can also ask a representative to pass your requirements and claim it as long as you indicate these details in your online form and present the O.R. when claiming.

Processing Time : 3 Working days
Filing Time : Monday to Friday 8:45AM to 11:45 AM
Releasing Time : Monday to Friday 1: 45PM to 4:45PM

NOTE: THE TECO RESERVES THE RIGHT TO WITHHOLD THE REASON FOR THE DISAPPROVAL OF ANY VISA APPLICATION

3. For the actual application this you must keep in mind. I will share you some tips on how to have a very quick processing time.

Passing of requirements take place in the morning from 8:45 am to 11:45 Mondays to Fridays. In the afternoon, it’s all about claiming of passports from 1:45 pm to 4:45. The TECO is located at the RCBC Tower, 41st floor, Tower 1. RCBC is across People Support Building and Makati Medical Center. I suggest the applicant to arrive around 8:15 am and make sure to sign the registration form at the strike of 8:30 am in the reception area (Buendia side, 1st floor).
The receptionist will ONLY allow guests to log in at 8:30 am. Please take note, writing your name on the log sheet does not mean that’s your queue number….not yet!
After logging your name, you will be asked to go to the “smoking area” outside the building. Look for the Edsa revolution monument outside and stay at the left side (to your left when facing the monument). Unfortunately, TECO does not care whether you’re allergic to smoke or it’s hot outside. On the day I passed my application, I stayed inside and near the door…and low and behold! I did not realize they were already giving out queue numbers outside and they skipped my name because I’m not there! Plus, it’s also hard to identify the TECO personnel because they won’t show any placards identifying they’re from TECO nor they wear uniform. You’ll know they’re there if everyone starts to crowd in and one person would start calling out names based on the log sheet.

After getting your number RUN to the elevator! haha just kidding. Go back to the reception, line up and ready your government ID so the receptionist will hand you the visitor's pass. Then proceed to 41st floor. Note that if you don't have a government ID, you can give any ID BUT you must give Php 1,000 as "security fee"--don't worry it will be given back to you once you're done.

When inside the embassy, take a seat and wait for your number. Be attentive to the board. There's no "ding dong" sound that will cue the next number.

When it's your turn. Hand over your requirements (the consul will review it) and go to the next window to pay the visa fee. Keep the receipt and show it after 3 working days. BTW, you can ask someone to claim your visa. No more authorization letter or ID needed just present the receipt.

Lastly, for claiming follow the same procedure but be mindful of the releasing schedule (1:45 PM to 4:45 PM). I just want to share that when I claimed my visa, I was applicant number 1 and it only took me 5 mins waiting time inside the embassy but total of around 45 mins. if I include registration time. I'm really glad TECO works fast :)
Taiwan tourist visa must be used within one (1) month after date of issue and duration of stay is only limited to 14 days so to those who would like to maximize their stay in Taiwan, keep this in mind.  Best to apply visa 1-2 weeks before your trip.

Completeness, accuracy, and precise timing are the three things you should keep in mind when applying for Taiwan visa. There! Hope I was able to help :) Leave a comment in case you have questions but I can only share my personal experiences. When in doubt ask the embassy directly.

    1. Hummm...not sure but parang no more extension na. You may ask though para super sure.

For the requirements as a student, they did not specify compared when you get Korean visa. But definitely submit financials, required documents for work or school (e.g. in your case perhaps a school certificate). :)

    3. Hi Diane, sorry lahat ng nakasulat sa blog ko dito that's all I know about taiwan tourist visa...I am not really familiar with government employees na hinaharang and "strict". Personally, I don't think nanghaharang sila since government employees are still considered as "regular tourists" :) as long as you go there as a tourist then I think it should be fine.

Anyway, good luck sa pagkuha! hope you can drop by a comment once you have the results! :)

    5. Hi Diane, thanks for the kind words! Good luck sa visa application and sa trip!!! :) Excited for your solo trip hahaha. BTW regarding your question, if pwede mag apply earlier...I think yes BUT you need to count the days of validity ng visa mo. Dapat macocover pa din siya ng duration ng trip mo otherwise ayaw mo naman may expired visa habang nasa Taiwan ka right? :) count mo nalang backwards. Also, I am not really familiar with the process fr re-application in case of a denied visa. Baka may internal na months siya like in other embassies after 6 months ulit bago ka mag re-apply. Ask the embassy nalang to be sure :)

    6. For DIANE MAN: If you are a government employee and will be traveling, you have to secure an AUTHORITY TO TRAVEL from your personnel department. Kapag kasi idineclare mo na government employee ka, dito pa lang sa Philippine Immigration eh hihingan ka na ng authority to travel. Ayun.

  8. Hi, my Taiwanese visa has been recently approved and I'll be leaving first week of June 2014. Do approved visa holders still need to register their passport details in the Taiwanese Immigration website? Or no need? Appreciate the clarification- this will be my first trip to Taiwan. In my research, www.ivanhenares.com mentioned about the online registration procedure but his blog was Jan 2012 pa. I was wondering if there's still a need to do so or the procedure has changed since his post. There's a printout daw that needs to be shown upon flight check-in. The Taiwanese Immigration officials will look for them as well. I tried doing the procedure but there's a portion where you are required to answer if you're qualified for visa exemption (if you have the US, Canada, Japan, etc. visa/s). I don't have any of those visas and I can't skip this part. If I don't answer this part, the questionnaire won't proceed. There's no "No or NA" portion... Also, the Taiwan consulate stapled the orig copy of NSO birth cert at one of the pages of my passport, can I remove them already? Or the Taiwan Immigration will be looking for it?... Thanks so much!

Just got our visa approved kanina i just submitted the following requirements (actually si fiance ang nagasikaso at pumuntang TECO hehe): online application (printed copy), passport size pic, birth cert, passport (orig and photocopy), COE with salary/compensation and bank certificate. Hindi na ko nagpasa ng letter na approved yung leaves ko and ITR. Less than an hour lang inabot ng pagpasa ng requirements, same goes sa pag-claim (experience ni fiance). 3. Hi thanks for dropping by my blog! To answer your question, for Taiwan visa they didn't specify if accommodation confirmation is required they only stated "supporting documents" to prove that you will be there for a certain number of days and just for travel. In my experience, I always book my hotels na prior to application and I always attach the confirmation with my requirements. They always get it din however, like in Korean Visa, some of my readers shared that they didn't show the hotel booking but got approved visa naman. So yun your choice :)

    1. Hi Ria, the embassy did not state how much is the minimum so I really can't predict if that will be enough or not. Some only have few money in their bank but they were able to get visa...some have a lot of money but failed to get approval. It really depends :)

I have received my visa today. Thank you so much for your informative blog post, I followed everything that is posted in here starting from the requirements up to the processing. Nung nakita ko nga yung entrance building and yung smoking area kinocompare ko pa talaga sa pictures mo while saying "eto yun! Eto yun!" Haha

By the way I applied for a tourist visa and my bank certificate has only 20,000 pesos. :)

Thank you so much. Your blog helped me a lot. Thank you thank you. God bless you. :)

  27. Hello,

Sa applicant's details (page 1), anu po ung dapat ilagay sa ID No? Sa next page pa kasi ung passport eh and di ko sure what to put sa id no.

Also, may tour guide kame sa Taiwan, is it ok na ilagay xa as contact person in Taiwan?

    Hope you can help. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hi Bella Travellista, I reviewed my old application form and it didn't have any item about ID no. also passport number in my form is located at page #1. Are you applying for Taiwan tourist visa? perhaps you applied in a different type of visa...kindly check or maybe the embassy updated their form--not sure. In that case, please call or ask the embassy directly to be sure :)

For contact person, not sure also if you can write the tour guide's name and details since he/she is not directly related to you. I suggest you do research more and/or ask the embassy directly. I wrote in my form before NA or NONE kasi...sorry!

  30. Hi, Tin! Am sooo glad i stumbled upon this very informative blog of yours! I just booked a flight to Taiwan this coming December, it will be my first time to go to a country which requires a visa so i have a question: Is it necessary to submit the original ITR, or a photocopy will suffice? I was thinking that if i submit the original one, they might not give it back (baka kasi kailanganin ko yung original for other future transactions eh). Thanks in advance! :)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi Kara, thanks for dropping by my blog! :) to answer your question, you will only give out the photocopy ITR but always bring the original so in case they want to see it you have something to present. They will not get the original naman and will return it...well yung akin binalik nila :)

      Delete
    2. Hi Tin. With regards to ITR, on the day that you applied, they did not get your original anymore, just the photocopy? Or you still passed the original and they just gave it back to you when you got your visa? Thanks in advance :)

    3. If I remember it correctly, I showed them both original and photocopy then I think they got the original but returned it after claiming my visa. Sorry not so sure pero I remember it clearly they returned my documents including my NSO birth certificate original/authenticated.

Gagamit sana kami ng travel agency para kumuha ng visa namin but they require us to provide a bank cert with a 100k in it, i don't have that kind of money as of the moment kaya i decided to apply on my own n lang... and this blog of yours is very helpful... By the way, ung visa fee ba 2,100 pa rin? Or nagbago na? Thanks po ulit.

  32. Hi Tin. Medyo naconfuse ako, in the taiwan visa website, they did not specify bank certificate, but they did specify bank book or bank statement. Should I still get a bank certificate?

And also with regards to them asking for original and photocopies, would they be giving back the original on the day that you apply or on the day that they give you back your passports? My mom's kasi the requirements i'm bringing are ITR, DTI and business permit, parang ayoko naman ibigay sa kanila yung original nun :) hope you can shed light on this.

    1. Hi, last time the embassy is requiring to give out Bank book or bank certificate kasi... not sure if they changed it to a bank statement. You may ask the bank nalang they should know if nag change ng policy yung embassy :) just say it's for Taiwan tourist visa.

For the original copies, yes they will return your documents....well, they returned mine! :) Always bring the original AND photocopy to be sure. You can give it to them ng sabay and they will return or tell you naman if needed pa or not :)

Hi thanks for taking time to read my blog and for finding it informative! :) To answer your question, you just need to send whatever is in the list para magproprove na you can support yourself pero sometimes the embassy will still deny people kahit ok naman credentials... yun yung weird kung how they evaluate people. Pero think positive!!! :) haha kaya yan!

Also, note that single pass is valid for up to 14 days stay so I am not sure if you need a different kind of visa if you plan to stay there for 30 days... check mo nalang sa embassy :)

I think it's okay as long as you comply all the requirements and the advised of Ms. Tin. Just to share our personal experience nung nagpass kami bawal po ang ITR lang (one friend rejected), dapat po talaga bank statement/bank cert/passbook with COMPLETE photocopy (another friend rejected due to incomplete photocopied), FULLY accomplished online visa app (another friend rejected she was just missed 1 address), and the passport ID should be full head color photos (another friend rejected bawal ang side view kasi nagmamagandang lalaki... hahaha...).

All of them were back to pass their requirements 3 days later of the date of application except one who needs to re-fill up her visa app form and in the end they all accepted.

pero pwde naman pong wag na basta meron kayong maipakitang Bank Account na to prove na kaya nyong mag bakasyon doon at mas maganda kuung attach nyo rin ang tickets nyo papunta taiwan at pabalik sa pinas.

If bank certificate, it's just a one-pager showing the total money in your account.

    b. Certificate of Employment
    c. ITR ( or 2316 for the employed)
    d. Letter certifying that you're allowed to leave + the leave form
    e. Plane ticket and hotel booking, tapos we included the insurance pa... it's better to overkill... ibabalik naman nila ung di kailangan eh...

  69. Thanks for this post! I followed it to the letter, and it allowed for a very smooth prep, transaction, and eventual release of our visas.

Just a few more pieces of information:

    1. EVERYTHING needs to be photocopied. We were okay with submitting the original documents, but TECO still required everything to have additional copies. They finally let us through when we wrote down "OKAY TO LEAVE ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS" on the application form and signed it. Whew.

    2. We attached our ticket and hotel printouts, as well as our ITR forms, thinking it would make the approval process faster. But when we submitted our documents, these were immediately returned to us. They never collected it. Oh well.

    3. I had 40k in the bank while my wife had 20k. We were both approved without any hassle. There are more important factors to consider when applying for a visa. I'd like to think that if you have a stable job in a reputable company here in the Philippines, your COE will have more pull than your Bank Cert.

Thanks again for this blog. Really made the entire process a breeze.

    Cheers!

    1. Hi there! nako pls don't ask me the probability of an approved visa hehe di ko po ma-predict eh because it's always a case to case basis kahit nagpasa ka na ng lahat ng requirements sometimes the embassy still disapproves and yung iba naman syempre successful naman :) Just pray!!! and as long as nabigay mo naman lahat ng requirements then may bigger chance ka naman maapprove ;)

  71. Hi tin, thanks for your blog. Very helpful. Question po, gumamit ba kau ng travel agent when you went there? Who handled your tour? Can you recommend one?

    1. Hi Joane, when I travel I don't use a travel agency eh except if no choice for example in Japan bawal to pass on your own because dapat through a Japanese accredited travel agency lang. For Taiwan, I passed my own requirements :) It's easy and cheaper too because no need to pay a processing fee to the agent!

  74. hi! I'm planning to visit my cousin in Taiwan next year and it will be my first time to travel abroad. Low ba ang chances ko na maapprove ang visa since I don't have any history of previous overseas travels? Thanks!

  75. Hi tin, luckily approved na visa namin. And im so happy! Thank you for your blog, it helps me a lot during the process of my application.
Anyway, parang di naman madamot ang teco magbigay ng visa, as long as complete requirements ka no problem. Then para sa mag ffill our ng application,

For address in taiwan, sana wag nyong kalimutang ilagay ang address kung san kayo mag sstay dun kasi ako nagkamali kaya I have to go back again and sign another application.

Im so excited! Thanks again :)

  78. Hi Tin, thank you for this very informative blog. We already got our visas! So excited for our family trip. God bless you and may you have more tinco adventures to come. :)) -Jasmine

For those students applying for visa, these were the additional documents I submitted: (original certificate of enrollment, photocopy of registration form and student ID and original bank certificate). In addition, my mom is already a retired employee, so she only submitted a bank certificate and a photocopy of a land title as her additional documents. Hope this helps. :)
